For Our Adolescent Patients and their Families
The teenage years.....your child is undergoing physical and emotional changes at this time. The providers at Western New York Pediatrics understand this is a different stepping stone along the path of development. Once your child becomes a teenager, our visits are structured a little differently. While you are still encouraged to bring your child to their appointment, your teenager is now asked to spend time privately with the physician or nurse practitioner. This separation gives them a sense of independence and allows them time to ask any questions they may have. Parent issues can be addressed at the end of appointment time. Remember that some information that your teen child and provider discuss is confidential by NYS law- so details of the entire office visit may not be shared with you.
Your teen will be asked to complete an age appropriate adolescent survey which will help in addressing common issues. Copies of the surveys are listed below. If you wish for your child to not complete the survey, please let the nurse know at the start of the appointment time.
Adolescent females may also be screened for chlamydia. Girls both "at risk" and "not at risk" will be screened as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the NYS Department of Health.
Please speak with your appointment provider regarding any concerns you may have.
